A NUC (Nucleus) is a small honeybee colony that has a mated, brood-laying queen bee. There are a few drones and a few thousand worker bees in here. These NUCs (small beehives) are sometimes employed as a stopgap measure until the colony has grown sufficiently to be moved into a bigger hive.

Before buying your nuc box and build your colony, you should get familiar with the rules around keeping bees.
